Job Title: Senior Information and Referral Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Senior Information and Referral Specialist to join our team at the DuPage County Department of Community Services. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional support to individuals and families in need.

Job Summary:

The Senior Information and Referral Specialist will be responsible for responding to requests for assistance, gathering and analyzing data, and determining appropriate referrals. This position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist individuals in identifying their needs and developing plans to address them
  • Screen clients for eligibility for programs and services, and complete calls and assessments as needed
  • Provide advocacy and short-term crisis counseling, and link clients with appropriate resources
  • Enter demographic and assessment information into multiple databases, and assist clients with application completion and appointment setting
  • Mail, text, or email resource information as needed, and follow up with clients and referral agencies to ensure needs are met
  • Provide counseling on health insurance options, and screen calls for complaints against long-term care facilities
  • Complete intake reports for allegations of abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, or self-neglect
  • Compile data on calls, follow-up calls, source of referrals, and tabulate reports for review by supervisor
  • Conduct inquiries and basic research to determine if unknown types of services are available
  • Attend meetings and programs related to relevant social service programs
  • Prepare and present public information material, educational workshops, and represent the unit with service providers
  • Perform community outreach in the form of public speaking and educational workshops
Requirements:
  • Completion of an Associate's Degree in Human Services, Psychology, or a related field
  • Five years of experience in Information and Referral or Social Services
  • Must possess and maintain in good standing a valid Illinois Driver's License
  • Completion of mandated training for Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) certification within one year
  • Must obtain an Inform USA (formerly AIRS) Certification, timeframe for obtaining certification is dependent on education level and prior Information & Referral experience
