$134,000 - $249,600.00

At Infinera, your base salary is just one aspect of your overall compensation package. The actual base salary will be influenced by your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location. This position may also qualify for equity grants, discretionary bonuses, or commission payments, contingent upon the Company's incentive plans, financial performance, and individual job performance.

Position Summary:
The Optical Integrated Component Group is seeking a dedicated professional to contribute to the development of coherent and direct-detect optical modules for high-capacity data communication systems. The successful candidate will collaborate with teams focused on component design, system architecture, and optical engineering, engaging in testing, design validation, and process assessment for both current and next-generation versatile pluggable modules in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of high-speed, coherent and direct-detect optical module and sub-assembly testing, as well as RF test set creation.
  • Design and implement test plans and algorithms, executing module performance validation assessments.
  • Collaborate closely with ASIC, Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC), and module design teams, along with the system engineering group, to ensure the quality release of new products.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
We are looking for candidates with a robust background in either optical or electronic high-speed characterization:
  • Strong understanding of high-speed optoelectronic device characteristics and/or high-speed RF communication electronics.
  • Familiarity with coherent and/or direct-detect communication systems, including modulation formats, multiplexing concepts, and performance metrics of broadband communication systems.
  • Hands-on experience with high-speed optoelectronic device characterization techniques (e.g., >50GHz electro-optical small signal testing, QPSK/PAM large signal testing) and relevant equipment (e.g., VNA/PNA, LCA, AWG, real-time oscilloscopes).
  • Fundamental knowledge of active semiconductor optoelectronic device characteristics (e.g., semiconductor lasers/amplifiers, photodiodes, modulators).
  • Programming skills in Matlab, C, C++, Python, or similar languages for automating instrument control and data acquisition.
  • Experience in signal analysis and processing is advantageous.
  • Ability to construct, maintain, and troubleshoot complex test hardware and software in a collaborative environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to producing comprehensive documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional development teams, along with excellent oral and written communication abilities.
Education and Experience:
A PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant graduate-level and/or industry experience in optical communications, photonics, high-speed electronics, or systems is required. Candidates with a Master's degree and 3+ years of applicable experience will also be considered.
