Role Overview
The Optical Integrated Component Group is seeking a talented individual to contribute to the development of coherent and direct-detect optical modules for high-capacity data communication systems. The selected candidate will collaborate with component design, system, and optical architecture engineering teams, engaging in testing, design validation, and process evaluation for current and next-generation versatile pluggable modules in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of high-speed coherent and direct-detect optical module and sub-assembly testing and RF test set creation.
  • Design test plans and algorithms, and execute module performance validation tests.
  • Collaborate closely with ASIC, Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC), and module design teams, as well as the system engineering group, to ensure the quality release of new products.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
We are looking for candidates with a robust background in either optical or electronic high-speed characterization:
  • Solid understanding of high-speed optoelectronic device characteristics and/or high-speed RF communication electronics.
  • Familiarity with coherent and/or direct-detect communication (sub)systems, including modulation formats, multiplexing concepts, and basic performance metrics of broadband communication systems.
  • Hands-on experience with high-speed optoelectronic device characterization techniques (e.g., >50GHz electro-optical small signal testing, QPSK/PAM large signal testing) and equipment (e.g., VNA/PNA, LCA, AWG, real-time oscilloscopes).
  • Fundamental understanding of active semiconductor optoelectronic device characteristics (e.g., semiconductor lasers/amplifiers, photodiodes, modulators).
  • Programming experience in Matlab, C, C++, Python, or similar for automating instrument control and data acquisition.
  • Experience in signal analysis and processing is advantageous.
  • Ability to construct, maintain, and troubleshoot complex test hardware and software in a collaborative environment.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing thorough documentation.
  • Strong ability to work effectively in cross-functional development teams, alongside excellent oral and written communication skills.
Education and Experience
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant graduate-level and/or industry experience in optical communications, photonics, high-speed electronics, or systems. Candidates with a Master's degree and 3+ years of applicable experience will also be considered.
