Job Overview

The Automotive Maintenance Specialist performs advanced-level tasks related to the diagnostics, repair, and upkeep of buses and associated vehicular equipment with minimal supervision. This role involves leading shop personnel with respect and addressing any conflicts maturely, with support from the Fleet Manager or Shop Foreman. Additionally, the specialist is responsible for mentoring and guiding junior technicians, reporting directly to the Fleet Manager and Shop Foreman.

Key Responsibilities

+ Conduct diagnostics and repairs on mechanical, electrical, and engine issues for buses and other automotive machinery.

+ Execute roadside repairs as necessary.

+ Repair and replace components such as seats, glass, sheet metal, latches, and other body parts.

+ Perform oil changes, filter replacements, chassis lubrication, and other routine preventative maintenance tasks, along with any required inspections.

+ Carry out annual DOT inspections in accordance with federal and company guidelines.

+ Mount and dismount tires on buses and related equipment.

+ Utilize battery chargers, welding tools, and machinery essential for vehicle repair and maintenance.

+ Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization within the workshop.

+ Use a desktop computer to complete work orders and manage parts inventory as needed.

+ Undertake additional duties as assigned.

+ Support the training of junior technicians.

+ Maintain a general understanding of corporate environmental policies and procedures relevant to job functions.

+ Be informed of environmental objectives and targets communicated by department managers.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

+ High school diploma or equivalent.

+ Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an automotive mechanic or full journeyman status in automotive and diesel mechanics.

+ At least four years of relevant experience in a heavy-duty truck or bus repair facility.

+ Alternative combinations of technical training and work experience may be considered by the Fleet Manager.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

+ Proficient in the repair of various vehicular equipment.

+ Experienced in all aspects of preventative maintenance.

+ Skilled in troubleshooting equipment malfunctions.

+ Familiar with the operation of diverse tools and equipment as required.
