Job OverviewPosition Title: Packaging Manager

Location: Fort Morgan, CO

Position Summary

The Western Sugar Cooperative is seeking a Packaging Manager to oversee the sugar packaging processes at our facility. Reporting directly to the Director of Supply Chain, this role is pivotal in ensuring operational excellence within the packaging department. The successful candidate will possess strong attention to detail and will effectively lead a team, acting as a bridge between production staff and management. A commitment to the company's success and a robust understanding of mechanical systems, Lean methodologies, and Total Production Maintenance (TPM) are essential.

  • Strategically plan and direct packaging operations to enhance efficiency.
  • Motivate and educate team members on packaging line operations.
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring adherence through training and accountability.
  • Utilize Key Performance Indicators to monitor and improve packaging line performance.
  • Adopt a Continuous Improvement mindset to drive accountability and achieve organizational objectives.
  • Employ Root Cause Analysis for effective problem resolution.
  • Facilitate effective shift transitions and create optimal shift schedules for departmental operations.
  • Conduct biannual performance evaluations with direct reports.
  • Address employee grievances promptly while adhering to the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Foster a strong partnership with the Purchasing Department to guarantee the availability and quality of packaging materials.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to promote a robust TPM program.
  • Monitor and manage departmental expenses in alignment with the annual budget.
  • Assist the Director of Supply Chain in capital planning initiatives.
  • Support the implementation of a Customer-Centric Strategy focusing on superior service, competitive pricing, and high-quality innovative products, while ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices and Third Party Audit standards.
  • Engage with the Visual Daily Management process to provide necessary support to the packaging lines.
  • This role may require a commitment of more than 40 hours per week, including weekends.

Qualifications

  • Collaborative, results-driven, and approachable.
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, industrial technology, or business is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of proven leadership experience in packaging operations is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in enhancing safety, productivity, and quality metrics.
  • Strong communication skills across all organizational levels, including hourly staff and senior management.
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Sigma and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Proficient in computer applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Customer-focused mindset.

Travel Expectations:

  • Minimal travel, approximately 10% or less.
