Position Summary

The Western Sugar Cooperative is seeking a Packaging Manager to oversee the sugar packaging processes at our Fort Morgan facility. This role will report directly to the Director of Supply Chain and will be responsible for leading a dedicated team while acting as a bridge between production staff and senior management. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to operational excellence, with a passion for contributing to the company's success. A strong mechanical background, experience in Lean manufacturing, and knowledge of Total Production Maintenance (TPM) are essential.

  • Conduct formal performance evaluations with direct reports biannually.
  • Address employee grievances promptly while adhering to the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Build strong partnerships with the Purchasing Department to ensure the availability and quality of packaging materials.
  • Collaborate closely with the Maintenance Manager to foster a robust TPM program.
  • Monitor and manage departmental expenses in alignment with the annual budget.
  • Assist the Director of Supply Chain in capital planning for the department.
  • Support the implementation of a Customer-Centric Strategy focused on Exceptional Customer Service, Competitive Cost Management, and High-Quality Innovative Products, including compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices and Third-Party Audit standards.
  • Actively engage with your team through the Visual Daily Management process to ensure adequate support for production lines.
  • This role may require more than 40 hours of work per week, including weekends, to meet operational demands.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Approachable, results-driven, and collaborative.
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, industrial technology, or business is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated leadership experience in packaging operations is preferred.
  • Proven track record of enhancing safety, productivity, and quality.
  • Strong communication skills for effective interaction with all organizational levels, including hourly staff and senior management.
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Sigma and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Proficient in computer applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Customer-focused mindset.

  • Essential leadership qualities include independent thinking, strong organizational and planning skills, along with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Travel Expectations:

  • Minimal travel, 10% or less.
