Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our Emergency Department team at UMass Memorial Health. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our clinical staff in delivering exceptional patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care in a safe and sensitive manner, adhering to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Support the patient care process by performing various duties and procedures, including obtaining EKGs, collecting laboratory specimens, and preparing patients for surgery.
  • Initiate, complete, and maintain accurate documentation, including medical records, physician orders, and departmental logs.
  • Stock, maintain, and replace supplies as needed.
  • Apply and adhere to infection control and sterile technique principles in all aspects of the technician role.
  • Perform clerical and secretarial duties as required.
  • Participate in departmental performance improvement and training activities.
  • Interact effectively with diverse populations in stressful situations.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification, Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or equivalent experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum one year of CNA, EMT, CMA, or direct patient care experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, infection control guidelines, and sterile techniques.
  • Ability to take direction, set priorities, and organize work assignments.
  • Strong attention to detail and interpersonal skills.
