About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Maintenance Lead to join our team at Covanta. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for leading and conducting mechanical maintenance repairs on plant equipment, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the overhaul and maintenance of industrial production and processing machinery to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Repair or replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery or equipment, utilizing technical expertise and problem-solving skills.
  • Disassemble machinery or equipment to remove parts and make repairs, adhering to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Observe and test the operation of machinery or equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using technical knowledge and diagnostic tools.
  • Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs, ensuring proper functioning and safety.
  • Clean, lubricate, or adjust parts, equipment, or machinery to maintain optimal performance and prevent downtime.
  • Examine parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear, and recommend replacement or repair as needed.
  • Operate newly repaired machinery or equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs and ensure optimal performance.
  • Analyze test results, machine error messages, or information obtained from operators to diagnose equipment problems and implement solutions.
  • Operate metalworking tools, such as lathes and drill presses, to make and repair parts, adhering to safety protocols and procedures.
  • May assist or direct less experienced mechanics as required, providing guidance and training to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical degree preferred.
  • Five years of relevant experience in the repair and maintenance of industrial plant equipment, with a strong background in mechanical maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to provide leadership to the team for daily and routine work direction, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with minimum notice.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb, with frequent lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces, with proper safety equipment and training.
  • Qualify to wear a full-face respirator, with proper training and certification.
  • Consistently work in various weather conditions, with flexibility and adaptability.
