**Position Title:** Inspector V – Competitive Starting Salary $57,88

In this essential field role, the Inspector V is responsible for examining allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation involving adults and children with mental health challenges or intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities across various service settings, including State Hospitals and Community IDD services.

Investigations are conducted in diverse environments such as facilities and private homes, adhering to the Texas Administrative Code and relevant Provider Investigations policies.

There may be occasions where you will need to provide testimony in hearings or court proceedings, sharing insights regarding policies, procedures, findings, or activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct interviews related to allegations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
  • Gather evidence pertinent to the investigation.
  • Utilize critical thinking and sound judgment to evaluate evidence concerning the allegations.
  • Draft reports summarizing the findings of the investigations regarding abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
  • Communicate professionally and appropriately across all communication channels.
  • Promote and demonstrate respect for cultural diversity.
  • Uphold ethical standards and adhere to HHSC's Code of Conduct.
  • Engage in case conferences and meetings with supervisors and colleagues regarding case developments and outcomes.
  • Participate in ongoing training opportunities.
  • Maintain regular attendance in accordance with agency leave policies.
  • Occasionally work outside of standard hours (8 am – 5 pm), including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required for case-related duties and on-call responsibilities.
  • Travel using a personal vehicle or rental car in compliance with state travel policies, with travel reimbursements provided.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support unit operations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of Provider Investigations agency policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Familiarity with Texas laws related to Provider Investigations and protective services.
  • Awareness of the demographics served by Provider Investigations, including individuals with mental health issues and intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and skills.
  • Understanding of various cultures and their values.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication.
  • Capacity to work in emotionally charged environments.
  • Skill in operating computers, tablets, laptops, smartphones, and various software applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, such as fax and copy machines.
  • Capability to conduct interviews in various settings, including private residences, day habilitation facilities, group homes, and state-operated facilities.
  • Ability to work in environments where potentially violent individuals may be present.
