**Position Title:** Inspector V – Competitive Starting Salary $57,88

In this essential field role, the Inspector V is responsible for investigating claims of abuse, neglect, and exploitation involving adults and children with mental health challenges or intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities within various service environments, including State Hospitals and Community IDD services.

The investigations take place in diverse settings such as facilities and private homes, adhering to established regulatory guidelines and organizational policies.

Occasionally, the Inspector may be required to provide testimony in hearings or court proceedings, offering insights regarding policies, procedures, historical context, findings, or activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct interviews related to allegations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
  • Gather relevant evidence for the investigation.
  • Utilize critical thinking and sound judgment to evaluate evidence concerning the allegations.
  • Draft reports summarizing findings from investigations to determine if abuse, neglect, or exploitation has occurred.
  • Maintain professional communication across all channels.
  • Foster and demonstrate respect for cultural diversity.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and HHSC's Code of Conduct.
  • Engage in case discussions and meetings with supervisors and colleagues regarding case status and outcomes.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Consistently attend work in line with agency leave policies.
  • Occasionally work outside standard hours (8 am – 5 pm), including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed for case-related duties and on-call responsibilities.
  • Travel using personal or rental vehicles in compliance with state travel policies, with reimbursement provided.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support unit operations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of Provider Investigations agency policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Familiarity with Texas laws governing Provider Investigations and protective services.
  • Awareness of the populations served by Provider Investigations, including adults and children with mental health conditions and intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
  • Appreciation for diverse cultures and values.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication.
  • Capacity to work in emotionally charged environments.
  • Competence in using computers, tablets, smartphones, and various software applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Skill in operating standard office equipment, such as fax and copy machines.
  • Ability to conduct interviews in various locations, including private residences and state-operated facilities.
  • Willingness to work in environments where potentially dangerous individuals may be present.
