Our approach is rooted in curiosity and problem-solving, collaborating with clients to address current challenges and prepare for future demands. Our collaborative approach helps to navigate complexities and overcome challenges. We believe in co-creation with our clients, listening attentively and fostering diverse perspectives to drive innovation. Together, we strive to enhance safety, sustainability, and productivity in businesses.
Position Overview:
The Manufacturing Cost Analyst will serve as a crucial business partner to both operational and commercial teams, ensuring precise manufacturing cost data is available to support both tactical and strategic decision-making. This role involves taking ownership of and enhancing the accuracy of manufacturing costs across various facilities. The analyst will collaborate closely with finance, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to strengthen the reliability of standard costs and enhance visibility into product-level profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enhance the precision of routings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and standard costs while evaluating the allocation of overhead and indirect labor costs for optimal recovery.
- Manage the annual cost roll process, assess the effects of updates to labor and overhead rates, implement cost changes in the ERP system, and analyze the impact on financial statements.
- Conduct detailed monthly variance analyses between standard and actual gross margins, perform absorption analysis, and simulate the effects of changes in product mix or volume on future profitability, including the preparation of regular reports for relevant teams.
- Evaluate fluctuations in material costs and their impact on purchase price variances, collaborating with supply chain and sales teams to mitigate inflationary pressures.
- Regularly review standard costs to identify and rectify discrepancies.
- Lead financial activities related to the annual inventory count, partnering with operational and supply chain teams to enhance cycle count accuracy, aiming to eliminate the need for annual counts.
- Oversee the quarterly Excess and Obsolete (E&O) provision calculation and proactively initiate projects to minimize E&O.
- Collaborate with the Quality team to support initiatives aimed at reducing scrap.
- Assess the financial implications of new investments in facilities.
- Support and evaluate activities within projects from initial qualification through proposal and execution.
- Analyze efficiency improvement initiatives (such as process optimization, lean methodologies, and automation) to drive financial benefits.
- Engage significantly with manufacturing, supply chain, engineering, business development, and sales teams.
- Deliver monthly and ad-hoc reports to management, highlighting key costing themes and actions related to product-level profitability.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing and/or public accounting roles, demonstrating increasing responsibility and leadership.
- Experience in large, global organizations with a proven track record of delivering accurate financial forecasts.
- Exceptional judgment and problem-solving abilities to swiftly address unique and complex business challenges.
- Strong analytical skills with the capability to effectively engage with operational teams.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects efficiently.
- Comprehensive knowledge of financial practices, GAAP, cost management, supply chain, and manufacturing operations.
- Highly organized with a focus on personnel development.
- Experience in large matrix global organizations with a successful history of driving process improvements.
- Proficient in cost accounting.
- A formal accounting qualification and evidence of ongoing professional education post-qualification.
- Proficient in MRP, ERP, and the MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook).
