Job Title: Head of School

Job Summary:

The Head of School is a key leadership position at Urban League of Portland, responsible for overseeing the overall instructional, organizational, and operational aspects of the elementary school. This individual will lead the school in achieving its mission and vision, ensuring a high-quality education for students, and fostering a positive and inclusive school culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the school in achieving its mission and vision, ensuring a high-quality education for students.
  • Oversee the instructional program, including curriculum development, instructional design, and assessment.
  • Manage the school's budget, resources, and personnel, ensuring effective use of resources and compliance with regulations.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to promote student learning and well-being.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices in education, research, and technology to inform instructional decisions and improve student outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Masters degree in Education or related field.
  • Valid administrative license issued by TSPC (or ability to obtain by start date).
  • Minimum of 7 years of elementary experience in a Head of School/Principal leadership position.
  • Successful experience leading and/or coaching teachers.
  • Classroom experience that supported school improvement plans that resulted in improved academic performance for students, showing gains in closing the achievement gap.
  • Experience in analyzing student data and using data to inform instruction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Training in early education and/or human development.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Extreme flexibility, with a strong work ethic and ability to accommodate high levels of responsibility and multiple priorities.
