Process Operator

Collins Aerospace is seeking a skilled Process Operator to join our team in Fairfield, CA. As a Process Operator, you will be responsible for performing a range of production tasks driven by customer demand. This highly specialized position involves working with hazardous propellant and energetic powders to manufacture propellant-actuated devices. Your duties will include handling hazardous chemicals and safely loading energetic materials into smaller sub-assembly components. You will be expected to work safely, follow all safety rules, requirements, procedures, and instructions always. Additionally, you will be required to actively participate in the safety program and be mindful of your safety and the safety of others.
Responsibilities
Sets up and assembles parts.
Demonstrates proper use of simple hand and machine tools.
Reads and operates per written instructions, work order, and drawings with guidance from manufacturing engineering.
Collaborates with manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, and production coordinators.
Ensures creation of parts meet customer deadlines and expectations.
Complies with applicable elements of quality systems and ensuring quality product standards are met with no defects.
Participates in audits/cost reduction plans and continuous improvement plans/events as required.
Acquires applicable skill/knowledge/certifications as required.
Maintains materials, equipment, and work area in clean and orderly condition.
Communicates potential mechanical and safety problems effectively and immediately.
Reports to lead or supervisor on work progress and updates including conditions surrounding failures to meet quality standards.
Handles moderate amounts chemicals and energetics in accordance with safety regulations, while maintaining exact inventory.
Identifies, controls, and disposes of hazardous and non-hazardous waste including solvents, energetics, and lead.
Cleans up various machines, tooling, and areas from chemicals and propellants.
In-plant transportation, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
Completes documentation of work (i.e. marriage log, data sheet, etc.) without oversight.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Typically requires a High School Diploma or GED. In the absence of a High School diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience.
U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) access.
Minimum 1 year of energetic materials processing, manufacturing, and/or assembly experience.
Ability to perform basic math.
