Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate Director of Operations/Senior Paralegal Manager to join our team at Stanford Law School. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Mills Legal Clinic, including supervising paralegal and legal assistant functions, overseeing complex legal filings, and coordinating clinic events.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage paralegal and legal assistant teams, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of services.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of complex legal filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with court rules and procedures.
  • Coordinate clinic events, including orientation and welcome receptions, and manage the registration process for clinics.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with SLS administrative and operational teams, and participate in Stanford administrative committees.
  • Manage the clinic calendar, ensuring that all events and activities are properly scheduled and coordinated.
  • Approve expenditures and financial transactions for the MLC, and act as Clinic petty cash custodian.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience in administrative and financial management, or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Paralegal experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills, including conflict resolution.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong expertise in computer applications and databases.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines.
  • Proven ability to independently exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, take initiative, and be flexible and professional at all times.
Preferred Requirements
  • Familiarity with the values and methodologies of public interest law practice or with other nonprofit mission strongly preferred.
  • Exposure to indigent legal services strongly preferred.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, including demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in hiring and retaining staff.
Working Conditions
  • May work extended hours during peak business cycles.
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently sitting.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, writing by hand, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork or parts, rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat.
