Job Title: Associate Director, Search Fund Project

Stanford University is seeking an Associate Director to lead the Search Fund Project, a unique and innovative initiative that aims to advance the field of search fund investing. The successful candidate will work closely with faculty and industry leaders to design and implement a comprehensive strategy for the project, including developing and managing the project's budget, leading the biennial Stanford Search Fund Study, and curating content for the biennial Search Fund Conference.

About the Search Fund Project

The Search Fund Project is a key component of Stanford University's Graduate School of Business (GSB) entrepreneurial education program. The project aims to provide students with a transformative leadership experience, pushing the boundaries of knowledge with faculty research, and offering a portfolio of entrepreneurial and non-degree programs that deliver global impact. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the project's strategy, developing deep knowledge of the search fund model, and building relationships with key industry stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the GSB's Search Fund Project strategy and develop and manage the project's budget.
  • Lead the biennial Stanford Search Fund Study, in partnership with faculty, including identifying new areas to explore, designing and developing the survey, working with industry leaders to ensure strong response rates, leading the analysis of survey results, and writing insightful report(s) outlining results.
  • Develop deep knowledge of the search fund model and the research Stanford has conducted on this industry to date.
  • Build relationships with key industry stakeholders, including leading investors, CEOs, and searchers.
  • Lead the design, planning, and implementation of the biennial Search Fund Conference, including curating content, managing attendees and sponsors, planning and implementing the vision for the event in partnership with the GSB's events team, and ensuring the conference delivers the very high quality experience its history has led attendees to expect.
  • Design and develop other research projects or white papers to report on current issues in the Search Fund industry.
  • Advise students interested in the search fund model, guiding them to resources and courses where they can deepen their learning.
  • Maintain current student resources (alumni list, investor list, etc.) and work with faculty and students to identify and create other proprietary resources to support students.
  • Potentially assist with the creation, coordination, and grading of search fund courses.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and three years relevant experience or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in management of projects, including project planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to draw accurate and relevant conclusions from analyses.
  • Highly effective organization skills and ability to own project timelines, work with a variety of stakeholders, and manage multiple projects at once.
  • Extremely strong writing skills.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with students, faculty, and senior industry leaders.
  • Strong analytical skills to review and assess complex financial information.
  • Comfort with technology and data management.
Preferred Requirements
  • Advanced degree; MBA is preferred.
  • Strong experience doing analysis with tools such as R or Python that enable more rapid results and the ability to pre-code for results before survey results are received.
  • Very strong preference for someone who has knowledge and understanding of the search fund industry or private equity, and specifically how returns are calculated and assessed in these industries. Alternatively, strong candidates may bring excellent skills in finance, even if they do not have experience in investing industries.
  • Experience working with highly sensitive and secure data.
