The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for a Security Operations Specialist to design and implement security protocols that support our advanced silicones division catering to the Aerospace and Defense sectors.

This role will report to the Industrial Security Manager and will be part of a dynamic team focused on maintaining high standards of security compliance.

What we're looking for:

  • Education and Experience:
  • A Bachelor's degree along with three years of experience in Industrial Security or a related field. Alternatively, an additional four years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Familiarity with the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM), Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), and/or NIST SP, as well as the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) is essential.
  • Additional Qualifications Required:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must possess and maintain an Active U.S. Government security clearance.
  • A solid understanding of security protocols is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal abilities to effectively engage with clients, vendors, and team members.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Candidates should have and be able to sustain an Active U.S. Government security clearance at the Secret level, with a background investigation completed within the last six years.
  • Capability to obtain and uphold Special Access Program (SAP) approval in a timely manner as determined by business needs.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM), DFARS, and relevant NIST standards for safeguarding Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
  • Understanding of DD-254 Implementation Requirements.
  • Proficiency with NISS/NCAISS, DISS systems.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and demanding work environment while demonstrating exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to build positive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Capacity to work independently and manage projects to completion.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong working knowledge of standard office software tools such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Stay informed and provide guidance on federal and defense regulations, policies, and instructions pertinent to Aerospace and Defense Acquisitions, cybersecurity, physical security, information security, and personnel security.
  • Exhibit excellent problem-solving skills and experience in implementing security measures across various domains including information, physical, personnel, and cyber security.
  • Identify security vulnerabilities and develop effective solutions.
  • Assist in maintaining the Company Facility Clearance Level (FCL) and Insider Threat Program in accordance with NISPOM standards.
  • Develop and revise security policies, procedures, and guidelines related to the safeguarding of classified information, Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), and export-controlled data.
  • Foster working relationships with representatives from government agencies and primary government contractors.
  • Process and manage personnel security applications for Department of Defense (DoD) security clearances.
  • Conduct and monitor status verification for all personnel, including employees, consultants, visitors, and vendors, who require access to company facilities and IT systems.
  • Participate in the creation and delivery of security education and training initiatives.
  • Oversee access control responsibilities, including badge administration, alarm system management, visitor protocols, and key control.
  • Implement cybersecurity change orders in compliance with regulatory requirements (NIST, CMMC, DFARS, etc.).
  • Investigate security breaches and perform security audits, preparing reports that outline preventive measures to be taken.
  • Assist in managing the Material Handling Plan and regulating access to controlled areas.
  • Provide guidance on the appropriate classification markings for ITAR, EAR, CUI, FCI, and classified data.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Pay Transparency:

The expected pre-tax salary for this position is $64,000 to $106,000. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
