Job Title: Tobacco Treatment Specialist

At the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center, we are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Tobacco Treatment Specialist to join our team. As a Tobacco Treatment Specialist, you will play a critical role in helping cancer patients overcome their tobacco addiction and improve their overall health outcomes.

Job Summary:

The Tobacco Treatment Specialist will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to provide individual and group smoking cessation services to cancer patients. You will be responsible for assessing patients' tobacco use and quit status, developing personalized treatment plans, and providing ongoing support and guidance to help patients achieve their quit goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct outpatient care to cancer patients who want to quit tobacco/nicotine products
  • Assist in coordinating care with primary care teams and oncology teams as needed
  • Perform follow-up visits and phone calls to assess patients' progress and provide ongoing support
  • Work from a patient registry of smokers to provide proactive phone calls and motivational interviewing to support quitting
  • Coordinate tobacco treatment plans with appropriate team members for implementation
  • Assist patients and their families in acquiring skills needed to successfully utilize the tobacco treatment plan
  • Identify discounted tobacco cessation therapeutic opportunities and facilitate applications for discounted prescription and nicotine replacement programs
  • Query about patients' tobacco use history and quit status
  • Perform patient assessments of tobacco use and quit status
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in a related field
  • One year of patient education and/or behavior change intervention experience in a healthcare setting
  • Research experience in a clinical healthcare setting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training
  • TTS Certification (NCTTP/NCNTT)
  • Experience working with patients in an oncology setting
  • Proficient in REDCap
