{"ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES": "Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Supervisor - Mental Health Specialist, you will be responsible for the general supervision of coaching and nursing staff, therapy staff related to patient and family concerns, staffing patterns, performance management, employee requests, and all service line related crisis.

In collaboration with nurse managers, this position is responsible for ensuring the education, competencies, and orientation of clinical staff in the specialty practice are completed in accordance with company policy and regulatory guidelines.

Collaborates with nurse managers to keep apprised of relevant information.

Ensures adequate staffing, schedule and supervisory oversight based on clinical patient volumes and acuity. Assists with direct patient care as needed.

Oversees on-site (Point of care) laboratory testing in conjunction with the lab.

Executes three stages of supervision: communication (with the opportunity to ask and have questions answered), oversight, and outcomes evaluation.

Understands specific clinical guidelines applicable to the specialty practice area and the ability to locate best practice guidelines.

Provides leadership in the mental health specialty practice including crisis prevention and milieu management. Acts as a resource and role model for clinical excellence.

Reviews nursing documentation and maintains standards regarding hospital policy on documentation, including educating staff to document standards as appropriate.

Works closely with and under the clinical guidance of the director of nursing and patient care, the practicing physician(s) and the mental health executive leadership team.

Must demonstrate competency of the approved hands on crisis Prevention interventions and techniques

Performs other duties as assigned.

", "LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS": "Licenses and Certifications

Current Virginia state license as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license.

", "MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS": "Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through the completion of an accredited School of Nursing.

Technical and professional knowledge and skills unique to acute care psychiatric nursing acquired through 3 - 5 years' of active inpatient and acute psychiatric nursing, Clinical/Supervisory experience preferred.

Pediatric psychiatric experience preferred.

CPR certification required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.

Crisis Prevention Training must be completed within 30 days from hire.

Self-starter that possesses critical thinking skills and ability to manage shifts and staff by supervising the entire inpatient (and PHP calls as needed).

Demonstrates excellence in nursing practice characterized by quality patient care, participation in formal and informal patient and staff education.

Possess leadership skills, effective communication, and collaboration as well as emotional intelligence.

Active in the inpatient milieus with patients, staff and families. Active in the patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Environment may include physical, mechanical restraints as well as seclusion. Patients that are dysregulated with high acuity and potential for risk to self and others. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
