Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Program Support Specialist is responsible for observing, documenting, and responding to the movements of guests, staff, and residents. The specialist will follow established protocols to ensure safety and will actively monitor activities in the lobby area. As a vital member of the program services team, this position involves providing trauma-informed support and collaborating with team members to enhance community well-being.

PROGRAM BACKGROUND: Since its inception, Cascade Women's Program has dedicated itself to offering a secure environment and essential resources for female-identifying individuals facing homelessness in the Seattle area. The program consists of 32 units of permanent supportive housing, complemented by case management and assistance from a dedicated and empathetic staff.

ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION: Compass Housing Alliance is committed to developing and delivering vital services and affordable housing for individuals and families experiencing housing instability throughout the greater Puget Sound region. We envision a society where every individual resides in a safe and nurturing community. Our organization fosters an inclusive, supportive, and challenging work environment that prioritizes the dignity and well-being of those we serve.   • LOCATION: South Lake Union Neighborhood
  • REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator or Manager
  • FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
  • SCHEDULE: Friday-Sunday 12-8:30am; includes monthly staff meetings
  • MEAL PERIOD: Paid (30-minutes)
  • SALARY: $21.22 per hour (Step 1) + additional $1.75 per overnight hour

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide trauma-informed monitoring of activities within and around the facility to ensure the safety and comfort of residents and staff.
  • Mediate conflicts and offer de-escalation and crisis intervention; model effective problem-solving and refer to appropriate services as necessary.
  • Assist in program activities, including meal services and supporting residents with tasks such as laundry access and group activities.
  • Address resident concerns as directed by the Program Manager or Coordinator.
  • Report on resident and building needs to management and ensure supplies are adequately stocked.
  • Perform light data entry tasks and post communications within the building to maintain a welcoming environment.
  • Monitor security cameras, conduct periodic security rounds, and investigate any disturbances or complaints.
  • Document all actions, incidents, and rule enforcement, reporting any unusual matters to the Program Coordinator or Manager.
  • Control after-hours access and monitor guest logs, enforcing rules and restrictions.
  • Adhere to safety and emergency procedures in accordance with agency policies.
  • Contact appropriate staff or emergency services when necessary.
  • Perform light janitorial duties as assigned.

LEADERSHIP AND COLLABORATION:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of best practices in de-escalation and crisis intervention.
  • Familiarity with local resources for individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Ability to manage difficult interpersonal situations and seek support when needed.
  • Understanding of agency policies to maintain safety and security.
  • Ability to set professional boundaries and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Aptitude for learning new technology and office equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 1 year of experience in building security or customer service is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience in human services, either through work or volunteer opportunities, is desired.
  • Awareness or training in equity and inclusion issues is a plus.
  • Current WA State Food Handlers Permit is preferred.
  • Experience with issues related to housing instability, mental health, and substance use is beneficial.
  • A degree in social work or a related field is advantageous.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and use hands for various tasks.
  • Occasionally required to lift and carry supplies up to 20 pounds.
  • Work involves long periods of sitting, computer use, and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Normal noise level in a human services environment.
  • Employees may encounter hazardous materials and will receive training on safety precautions.
  • This position requires onsite work only.
  • Facilities are monitored for safety and security purposes.
