Role Summary

The Paint Application Optimization Engineer will play a crucial role in the launch of new model paint and automation systems. This position focuses on ensuring the implementation of top-tier robotic paint processes during product launches. Key responsibilities include identifying root causes of paint defects, classifying these issues, and developing effective solutions to enhance paint quality. Additionally, the engineer will troubleshoot paint automation equipment, providing essential technical support to resolve mechanical and electrical malfunctions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the launch of new model paint and automation equipment.
  • Achieve excellence in robotic paint application processes.
  • Analyze and rectify paint defects through root cause identification.
  • Support robotic OEM programmers in optimizing paint quality data analytics.
  • Provide technical assistance during equipment shutdowns, startups, or emergencies.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in automotive paint application and automation equipment maintenance.
  • Extensive experience in launching new automotive paint models and automation systems.
  • Proficient in corporate paint manufacturing engineering and meeting launch objectives.
  • Experience with ABB, Durr, and Fanuc paint robots and applicators.
  • Knowledge of paint quality metrics, including film thickness and color consistency.
  • Position based in Dearborn, MI, with a flexible work-from-home option available.
