Job Overview

WILLIAMS OVERMAN PIERCE, LLP, a prominent regional accounting and advisory firm, is seeking a qualified Tax Manager. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of recent experience in a public accounting tax setting, focusing on the review of various entity tax returns, as well as supervising and mentoring staff while fostering strong client relationships. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage corporate, individual, and partnership tax engagements.
  • Review intricate tax returns, including forms 1120, 1120S, 1065, 1040, 1041, and others.
  • Identify tax-related issues and offer strategic tax planning advice to a diverse clientele.
  • Oversee, mentor, and develop members of the tax team.
  • Maintain and enhance client relationships to ensure exceptional service delivery.
  • Prepare and evaluate quarterly and annual income tax provisions; identify and document uncertain tax positions.
  • Conduct and review technical tax research, analysis, and written memoranda.
  • Assist clients in managing federal and state tax audits and negotiate tax positions effectively.
  • Collaborate with the firm's leadership to support various operational aspects of tax services, including thought leadership, quality control, and training.
  • Ensure outstanding client service by delivering high-quality results and providing proactive advice on relevant matters in a timely and straightforward manner.
  • Lead a team of staff-level professionals, ensuring the proper execution of assignments.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a public accounting environment or a combination of corporate and public accounting experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • CPA certification is mandatory.
  • Experience with multistate taxation is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in reviewing income tax returns and tax provisions.
  • Familiarity with ProSystem Tax and CCH Axcess software is preferred.
  • A passion for developing the professional skills of team members.
  • Excellent supervisory, communication, and organizational skills are essential.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the firm's management team is crucial.
  • Strong research and compliance capabilities.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple client engagements and meet tax deadlines.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Experience with CaseWare Working Papers software and a paperless work environment is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Exceptional analytical skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple engagements.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in a team setting with all levels of client personnel across various industries.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, along with proficient collaboration abilities.
