About the Role

Charah Solutions Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Safety Specialist to join our team. As a Safety Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce health and safety guidelines, policies, and procedures within the workplace.
  • Promote a safe workplace without risk to health.
  • Ensure the workplace satisfies health and safety requirements.
  • Proactive prevention and precautions against, or adequate control of, exposure to hazardous substances, and danger from flammable, explosive, electrical, noise, radiation, and manual handling risks.
  • Investigate accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventable measures.
  • Report or review findings from accident investigations and facilities inspections.
  • Provide weekly reports on activities and observations.
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
  • Work with the Safety Manager to conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.
  • Interview employers and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents.
  • Communicate safety policies with customers.
  • Act as safety resource contact for site managers on multiple projects/jobs.
Requirements
  • A valid driver's license required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in safety-related program preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in safety and/or compliance functions required.
  • Prior experience in ash management, waste, civil-type construction, or related environment preferred.
  • OSHA 510 certification required.
  • A familiarity with OSHA 1926 standards and requirements.
  • A working knowledge of heavy equipment and excavation safety.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Position requires honesty, dependability, and ability to be relied upon, responsible, and fulfill obligations.
Work Environment & Conditions
  • Ability to use electronic equipment such as computer, cell phone, and handheld radio for communication with supervisors and co-workers.
  • This position requires a flexible work schedule: nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to climb, maintain body equilibrium, reach, grasp, bend, and walk/stand/sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to hear and see naturally or with correction.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Be subject to loud noises.
  • Be subject to atmospheric conditions - one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odor, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
  • This position requires working in the internal and external environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure with time constraints in a changing environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
