Position Overview: The Indiana Conservation Fund is seeking a dedicated Community Organizer fluent in Spanish to spearhead initiatives focused on voter engagement, climate justice, and clean energy education within Indiana's Hispanic communities. This role emphasizes understanding and amplifying the concerns of local residents.

Organizational Mission: Our goal is to hold Indiana's elected officials accountable to the needs of Hoosiers, ensuring access to clean energy, air, and water. We envision a future where the voices of voters and impacted communities are prioritized, fostering a movement of engaged citizens advocating for environmental stewardship.

Reporting Structure: The Organizer will report directly to the Community & Government Affairs Manager. This is a full-time position with a commitment of two years.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a representative for energy and justice initiatives within the community.
  • Facilitate the registration of 2,000 new voters, integrating them into the organization's membership.
  • Develop an online community for local residents using platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook, focusing on community resources and achievements, primarily in Spanish.
  • Identify, train, and support a Spanish-speaking advocate for clean energy and environmental justice to join a Rural Electric Membership Cooperative board.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to secure diverse funding sources, ensuring the sustainability of initiatives.
  • Work alongside other team members on related issues, contributing innovative solutions and collaborative strategies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Fluency in Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing).
  • A minimum of one year of experience in environmental advocacy.
  • Strong connections to Hispanic communities in Indiana.
  • Self-motivated individual with a passion for environmental issues.
  • Ability to learn quickly across various topics.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Creative problem solver with a willingness to experiment and lead decision-making processes.
  • Capability to simplify complex concepts into actionable steps.
  • Experience in remote reporting to a supervisor.
  • Effective communicator with teaching abilities.
  • Strong focus on deadlines and measurable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency regarding Hispanic community issues.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Established relationships with environmental NGOs and local government staff.
  • Knowledge of clean energy policies and environmental justice frameworks.
  • Experience in political campaign work.
  • Ability to manage budgets and track expenditures.
  • Extensive organizing experience within Hispanic communities in Indiana.
  • Understanding of the distinctions between 501c3 and 501c4 activities.

Compensation: The position offers a salary of $50,000, along with comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 3% SEP IRA, and unlimited PTO.
