In addition to essential hunger relief initiatives across our extensive service area, we manage Fresh Connect Central, a regional produce cooperative, and serve as a contract reclamation site for major grocery chains, as well as a staging area for disaster response efforts.
Role Purpose:The Volunteer Engagement Specialist is dedicated to the recruitment, coordination, and management of volunteers, ensuring they receive an exceptional volunteer experience. This role is pivotal in conveying the significant impact volunteers have on our mission while supporting the essential operational functions that volunteers provide to our clients. The position is crucial for operational cost savings and for inspiring community support for our food bank. The Volunteer Engagement Specialist will assist in executing the strategic direction set by the Director of Volunteer Programs to guarantee operational success through valued community volunteers.
Key Responsibilities:- Enhance the development and expansion of the volunteer program, including the recruitment, training, placement, retention, recognition, and management of volunteers while improving their overall experience.
- Oversee the scheduling of community, school, and church groups, managing inquiries and responses through various communication channels.
- Facilitate on-site volunteer coordination, leading orientations and maintaining communication with necessary staff.
- Guide volunteers in projects aimed at preparing food for distribution.
- Ensure compliance with personnel and food safety standards.
- Maintain adherence to applicable regulations regarding the safe handling and storage of products.
- Document volunteer activities and collect feedback to enhance the volunteer experience.
- Assist in engaging youth and adaptive volunteers through specialized programs and skill development initiatives.
- Support the Director of Volunteer Programs in creating virtual engagement opportunities for volunteers.
- Collaborate closely with the Director to ensure comprehensive volunteer support for operations.
- Manage the Volunteer Hub database to maintain accurate records of volunteer information and metrics.
- Conduct tours for interested volunteers and stakeholders.
- Represent the organization at recruitment fairs and community events.
- Maintain community engagement kits for outreach activities.
- Stay informed on volunteerism trends and best practices.
- Act as a professional liaison between staff and volunteers.
- Document and share volunteer stories to promote awareness of our mission.
- Collect and analyze volunteer feedback through surveys and debrief sessions.
- Recognize and celebrate volunteer achievements, managing volunteer points and rewards.
- Address conflicts involving volunteers and implement necessary actions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Experience in volunteer management is essential.
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Customer service experience is preferred.
- A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are necessary.
- Certification as a Certified Volunteer Administrator (CVA) is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Physical ability to lift and move items as needed.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
- This position is on-site only, with no remote work options.
- Work will occur in both office and warehouse settings.
- Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet the demands of the role.
- Regular evening and weekend work may be necessary.
- Exposure to various environmental factors is expected.
