Purpose Statement
The role of a Secondary School Educator is designed to enhance students' academic capabilities through structured educational programs and the application of district-sanctioned curriculum; documenting instructional and student progress, activities, and outcomes; addressing individual educational requirements of students; and providing constructive feedback to students, guardians, and administration regarding academic performance, expectations, and objectives.

This position reports to the Secondary School Principal.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicates with parents and/or guardians about student performance to support educational expectations, develop improvement strategies, and reinforce classroom objectives at home.
  • Evaluates student progress and goals to provide insightful feedback to students, parents, and school administration.
  • Facilitates the comprehensive administration of assessment programs (e.g., training, proctoring, monitoring, interpreting results, providing remediation) to comply with educational standards and enhance the learning experience.
  • Collaborates with fellow educators to implement curriculum effectively.
  • Engages with school staff, parents, and community organizations to enhance student outcomes, devise solutions, and plan educational programs.
  • Demonstrates effective teaching methods to fulfill assignments and cater to the needs of individual learners.
  • Supervises student aides and volunteers to optimize their contributions and meet educational requirements.
  • Instructs students to foster academic success through a structured curriculum.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all educational and personal information to protect the privacy of students, staff, and parents, discussing sensitive information only in appropriate settings.
  • Monitors student activities (e.g., classroom, lunch, extracurricular events) to ensure student safety and well-being.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned (e.g., extracurricular activities, IEP meetings) to ensure the effective operation of the educational unit.
  • Prepares instructional materials and relevant reports (e.g., grades, attendance, behavior logs) to implement lesson plans and document student progress.
Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Proficiency in performing multiple complex tasks with a need for continuous skill enhancement to adapt to evolving job conditions. Specific competencies required include:
- Adhering to safety protocols
- Administering first aid
- Operating standard office equipment
- Utilizing relevant software applications.

Knowledge of algebra and geometry; ability to read various manuals, compose documents in prescribed formats, and present information effectively; understanding of multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies include:
- Age-appropriate educational activities
- Professional telephone etiquette
- Grammar and punctuation concepts.

Ability to organize numerous activities, meetings, and events; gather and classify data; and utilize basic job-related equipment. Flexibility to collaborate with diverse individuals; work with varied data types; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Independent problem-solving skills are essential for analyzing issues and developing action plans. Specific ability-based competencies include:

Work Environment
The typical methods of performing job functions require physical demands such as significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and considerable fine motor skills. The job generally involves 5% sitting, 10% walking, and 85% standing, performed in a clean environment.

Experience
Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is preferred.

Education
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

Required Certifications
Valid Teaching Certificate for the state.
