Position Overview
The Department of Library Services is seeking a part-time, non-career Educational Support Specialist to join our Family Learning Centers (FLC) Program. The FLC provides essential homework assistance, educational resources, and technology-based learning opportunities to enhance student skills and foster parental involvement. Under the guidance of a supervising Librarian, the Educational Support Specialist will play a vital role in creating an inviting atmosphere in our libraries while facilitating educational enrichment for our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Support students in completing homework and developing academic skills.
- Assist patrons with job search techniques and resume writing.
- Address general inquiries related to library resources and services.
- Guide patrons in utilizing public computers and devices.
- Help prepare and maintain program documentation, including data entry and reporting.
- Ensure a respectful and orderly environment within the library, especially in the FLC.
- Participate in mandatory training sessions for Educational Support Specialists.
- Organize and shelve library materials in the FLC.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- At least six months of full-time clerical experience with significant alphabetical and numerical filing.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to follow instructions and type at least 20 net words per minute.
- Capability to lift up to 40 pounds and manage book trucks.
- Willingness to work part-time and flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- A valid driver's license or the ability to arrange necessary transportation may be required for certain assignments.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in a library setting.
- Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of K-12 curriculum standards.
- Proficiency in writing, mathematics, reading, and science.
- Advanced computer skills, including familiarity with MS Office and library technologies.
- Professional demeanor, characterized by tact and patience.
