SUMMARY
The Lead Teacher is responsible for guiding children through age-appropriate activities that foster their social, physical, and cognitive development. This role involves supporting fellow educators in achieving classroom objectives and addressing challenges, while collaborating with management to ensure effective program delivery.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT:
- Establish a nurturing and inclusive classroom atmosphere that welcomes children and their families.
- Provide positive guidance and supervision to children.
- Engage in respectful interactions with children and parents that reflect the organization’s educational philosophy.
- Supervise and assist children from 6 weeks to 6 years in daily routines, including feeding, diapering, and personal hygiene.
- Ensure the successful implementation of the outdoor classroom initiative.
- Communicate supply needs for the outdoor classroom to the appropriate personnel.
HEALTH, SAFETY, AND NUTRITION:
- Adhere to the Child/Adult Food Care Program (CACFP) guidelines.
- Complete meal counts accurately at the point of service.
- Maintain up-to-date emergency information for children and ensure accurate identification.
- Review and report child injury incidents to parents and provide support as necessary.
PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT:
- Participate in all staff meetings, required training sessions, and special events.
- Uphold confidentiality regarding children, parents, and colleagues.
- Exhibit a professional demeanor at all times.
LEADERSHIP AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT:
- Facilitate parent-teacher conferences and engage in family involvement activities.
- Welcome and assist families as they enter the facility.
- Provide orientation for new and transitioning families, including facility tours.
- Offer resources and information to support family needs.
LEADERSHIP AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT:
- Assist in onboarding new staff members.
- Evaluate staff training requirements and communicate findings to the Center Director.
- Model effective interactions among teachers, children, and parents.
- Conduct training on environmental rating scales for staff.
- Guide educators on emergent curriculum and intentional teaching practices.
- Mentor and coach teachers and head teachers as needed.
- Follow up on classroom objectives post-assessment reviews.
PROGRAM QUALITY:
- Plan and implement engaging early childhood education experiences across various disciplines, including art, music, literature, science, mathematics, and physical education.
- Organize activities that support the emotional, social, intellectual, and physical growth of each child.
- Facilitate the organization of developmental assessments and child portfolios.
- Lead efforts to comply with NAEYC, QSLA, and Title 5 standards.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT:
- Comply with guidelines set forth by relevant regulatory bodies.
- Maintain an organized and clean classroom and outdoor space; oversee the upkeep of educational materials.
- Keep current portfolios and developmental outcomes for each child.
- Collaborate with the classroom team to prepare lesson plans and schedules.
- Assess staffing ratios and adjust hours as necessary.
- Provide coverage for staff breaks as needed.
- Work with educators to ensure timely completion of required documentation.
- Ensure all classroom paperwork is organized and accessible.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
- Oversee teaching staff, substitutes, student workers, interns, and volunteers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in early childhood education, with at least 1 year at Long Beach Day Nursery preferred.
- Possession of a Site Supervisor Permit.
- An Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or higher is preferred.
- Compliance with Title 22 Teacher Eligibility Requirements, including health screenings and background checks.
