In addition to primary responsibilities, the Bakery Team Development Specialist plays a crucial role in fostering engagement, productivity, and retention of new team members by organizing and delivering effective training tailored to their specific roles.
This position collaborates closely with Team Leadership, the Store Trainer, Team Member Services Generalists, and other qualified team members to ensure a seamless training experience.
The Bakery Team Development Specialist is responsible for the efficient and timely completion of New Member Connections and supports various training initiatives, including Operational Learning Pathways, Compliance, Occupational Safety, Food Safety, Product Knowledge, and Customer Service.
As a role model, this individual maintains a positive image and exemplifies customer-focused service.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities Specific to the Bakery Team Development Specialist
1. Ensure that both new and ongoing training programs for the bakery department are effectively delivered and completed.
2. Adhere to training deadlines and objectives.
3. Coordinate with Team Leaders and the Store Trainer to schedule training for new members during their initial shifts.
4. Communicate regularly with new members, Team Leadership, and the Store Trainer regarding the status of New Member Connections.
5. Facilitate operational training specific to the bakery team, including team-specific learning pathways and program rollouts.
6. Attend scheduled Team Trainer meetings.
7. Model and enforce food safety, sanitation, and occupational safety practices.
8. Train all team members on customer service standards and provide constructive feedback.
9. Educate team members on new products, their unique features, sales strategies, and placement within the department.
10. Maintain proper care and use of all bakery equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
11. Complete the Team Trainer Operational Learning Pathway and other assigned training modules.
12. Stay informed about the Store Training Roles Handbook and engage with all communication platforms.
13. Organize, track, report, and maintain accurate training records using Whole Foods Market's learning systems.
Responsibilities Applicable to All Positions
1. Arrive at the workstation punctually, appropriately groomed, and dressed according to company policy; fulfill all scheduled shifts and attend required training sessions and meetings.
2. Provide exceptional customer service, addressing customer needs promptly and effectively while modeling suggestive selling techniques.
3. Maximize sales potential through proper procedures for preparing, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising products.
4. Ensure compliance with established procedures, including Health and Sanitation, Weights and Measures, and Safe Work Practices.
5. Maintain a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment; ensure equipment meets cleanliness and safety standards.
6. Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned; verify accuracy of signage and pricing.
7. Report safety hazards and violations immediately.
8. Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.
Essential Skills

Experience
Minimum of 6 months of experience at Whole Foods Market or equivalent retail training experience.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
1. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
2. Standing/walking for 6-8 hours during an 8-hour workday.
3. Ability to perform motions such as bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
4. Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals and varying temperatures (freezers, refrigerators, and warm environments).
5. Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
6. Proficient in using tools and equipment, including box cutters and electric pallet jacks.
