Position Overview

The Credentialing Specialist plays a vital role in managing the complete initial credentialing and privileging process, as well as the reappointment process for all new medical staff and allied health professional candidates. This ensures the delivery of the highest quality patient care at Cooper University Health Care.

The Specialist will also oversee specific managed care audit coordination. This role collaborates closely with the Director of Medical Staff Services to guarantee adherence to Medical Staff Bylaws, Joint Commission Standards, and other regulatory obligations. Key attributes for success in this position include resourcefulness, sound judgment, independence, and strong organizational skills to effectively prioritize and complete tasks.

Required Experience

A minimum of 3 years' experience in medical staff services is essential, particularly in roles involving medical staff and allied health credentialing.

Experience in managed care or a similar healthcare setting is preferred. Proficiency in computer applications, especially Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), is critical, with a strong emphasis on data entry accuracy. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, along with strong time management, customer service, organizational, and analytical abilities are required.

Educational Background

An Associate Degree or equivalent experience is necessary, with a Bachelor's Degree being preferred.

Certification Requirements

Preferred certifications include Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Staff Management (CPMSM) from the National Association of Medical Staff Services (NAMSS).
