Job Summary:

The Applied Research Laboratory at the Penn State University is seeking a highly skilled Export Control Compliance Officer to join our team. As an Export Control Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the University's compliance with federal export control regulations, including ITAR, EAR, and OFAC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive export control policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments and reviews of research projects to identify potential export control issues.
  • Collaborate with principal investigators, units, and other stakeholders to ensure adherence to export control regulations and internal policies.
  • Conduct investigations and audits to identify and address export control compliance issues.
  • Serve as the central subject matter expert on export controls and provide guidance and training to faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with government agencies and industry partners to stay up-to-date on export control regulations and best practices.
  • Establish and maintain export control records and reports as required by federal regulations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as international trade, law, or business.
  • 8+ years of direct experience in export control compliance, including ITAR, EAR, and OFAC.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task, analyze complex situations, and develop actionable solutions.
  • Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to work effectively with researchers and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Sound judgment for decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field or Juris Doctor (JD).
  • U.S. Export Compliance Officer Certification.
  • Export control compliance experience in higher education.

Work Arrangement:

The Applied Research Laboratory at the Penn State University is committed to providing a flexible work environment that supports the needs of our employees and the University. This position is eligible for remote work arrangements, with occasional travel to the University Park campus required.
