Fluids Systems Design Expert for New Space Propulsion Systems

At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development of reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems. As a key member of our team, you'll contribute to the success of our New Glenn launch vehicle, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond.
Excel As a skilled Fluids Systems Design Engineer, you'll work on the design, analysis, development, and qualification of propellant systems on our re-usable launch vehicle. You'll collaborate with a diverse team of engineers to share in the impact on all aspects of detailed mechanical design, requirements, layouts, structural analysis, component selection, modeling, drafting, manufacturing, and test definition.
To succeed in this position, you'll have confirmed skills in mechanical design, structural analysis, aerospace material selection, manufacturing processes, engineering release, and vendor management. Your technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality will positively impact safe human spaceflight. A passion for our mission and vision is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent
- 5+ years of proven experience in the design of fluid systems
- Experience in 3D CAD (Creo preferred)
- Proven understanding of fluid components such as valves, bellows, tubing, and other pressurized hardware
- Experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools to analyze pressurized systems and secondary structures (ANSYS preferred)
- Proficiency in crafting engineering drawings with GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent
- Experience crafting internally pressurized gimbal type expansion joints and flex hoses
- Experience designing systems with RP-1, Oxygen, Peroxide, and Nitrogen in liquid and/or gaseous states
- Proven understanding of aerospace materials and treatments
- Solid understanding of fabrication, integration processes, and quality control techniques relevant to tubes, machined components, and welded hardware
- Experience with thermo-fluid solver applications Thermal Desktop (Sinda Fluint), AFT (Fathom/Arrow), based models, REFPROP
The estimated salary range for this position is $111,690-$156,366.
Benefits include medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
Discretionary bonus: Bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
