Job Description

As a key member of our team at the Newport News Redevelopment Housing Authority, the Assistant Property Manager plays a vital role in the daily operations of our assigned properties. This position requires a high level of administrative support, providing assistance to the Property Manager in collecting rent, generating work orders, and conducting annual re-examinations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for residents, applicants, and the general public, answering phones and greeting visitors.
  • Assists and/or refers tenants based on concerns and problems, and verifies information for accuracy and completeness.
  • Schedules annual and interim certifications and re-certifications, and enters information into the computer system to calculate rent.
  • Collects rent and other charges from residents, and enters corresponding data into the computer system.
  • Investigates tenant complaints, takes appropriate action to resolve identified issues, and prepares supporting documentation.
  • Assists with the eviction process, prepares and delivers court documents, and attends court as needed.
  • Conducts property inspections to ensure adherence to established standards, and observes for damages or needed repairs.
  • Oversees maintenance operations and staff, assigns work orders, and closes work orders upon completion.
  • Orders and maintains supply inventory, processes purchase requests, and approves payments.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in property management or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in computer software and systems, including Microsoft Office and property management software.
