Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at the Dayton Area School Consortium. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a critical role in maximizing the learning experience of students with special needs, providing a safe and optimal learning environment, and collaborating with colleagues to ensure student success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations to identify learning issues and recommend courses of action to overcome them.
  • Participate in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) development and implementation, working closely with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure student needs are met.
  • Provide counseling and support to students and parents, promoting personal growth, self-understanding, and behavioral management.
  • Collaborate with administrators, teachers, and other staff members to ensure student success and provide social work services as needed.
  • Stay up-to-date with current developments in the educational field, attending seminars, workshops, and professional meetings, and maintaining professional relationships with institutions of higher learning and the business community.
  • Organize and maintain accurate and complete record-keeping, providing student information to prospective colleges and employers as required.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Assist in the orientation of new teachers and provide in-service training in guidance.
  • Select and requisition appropriate books, aids, and other supplies and equipment, maintaining inventory records.
Requirements
  • State Certification as a Special Education Teacher.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Masters degree in Special Education preferred.
  • Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
