General Overview:

The individual in this role is accountable for the secure and effective transportation of students in accordance with state regulations and the policies set forth by the educational institution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the safe and efficient transport of students following district policies and state laws.
  • Operate a school bus or van for regular and special education students on scheduled routes.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the assigned vehicle.
  • Check all safety equipment and maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the vehicle.
  • Utilize safety and assistive technology, including two-way radios and lifts, and conduct necessary safety drills.
  • Prepare and maintain required reports, route maps, and student lists.
  • Provide transportation services for special needs students as per their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Manage passenger behavior and report any disciplinary issues.
  • Take necessary precautions to safeguard students, staff, and property.
  • Complete annual physical examinations and maintain up-to-date training and licensing.
  • Notify supervisors of any road hazards or delays.
  • Assist with other routes as needed.
  • Meet professional expectations regarding attendance and participation in district functions.
  • Respond to requests from the Transportation Supervisor regarding transportation operations.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor or Designee.
Working Conditions:

Occasional: Exposure to inclement weather, traffic, and loud noise; duties may require attendance outside normal hours.

Periodic: Exposure to severe weather and common childhood illnesses.

Frequent: Exposure to bodily fluids; prolonged periods of standing and lifting may be required.
