Position Overview

The Culinary Institute of America is seeking an adjunct faculty member to instruct students in the course titled Introduction to the Hospitality Industry. This role involves delivering high-quality education with a focus on professionalism and student engagement.


Compensation Structure

The compensation for this position is structured as follows: the base rate is $1,773; for candidates holding a Master's Degree, the rate increases to $1,950; and for those with a Master's degree and two years of college-level teaching experience, the rate is $2,127. The final offer will be contingent upon the candidate's educational background and relevant experience.


Course Description

This course aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the hospitality sector, including its history, current trends, and various career paths. Students will critically assess their options within the industry, exploring:

  • Social and economic factors influencing growth and change
  • Organization of the restaurant industry
  • Competitive dynamics in foodservice
  • Key elements shaping the lodging sector
  • Tourism destinations and generators

The concept of hospitality as a service-oriented industry will be explored in depth.


Delivery Format

This course will be delivered in a hybrid format, combining online learning with one in-person classroom session.


Key Responsibilities
  1. Prepare and deliver daily lesson plans that align with the Institute's educational philosophy and guidelines.
  2. Utilize the established syllabus and course materials to create engaging lesson plans.
  3. Provide individual support to students needing additional assistance or guidance.
  4. Offer constructive feedback to students in a timely and objective manner.
  5. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and performance.
  6. Ensure adherence to academic policies and maintain a disciplined learning environment.
  7. Assume responsibility for classroom equipment and facilities.

Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor's Degree in a related field is required.

Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of one year of college-level teaching experience and three to five years of professional experience in a relevant area.

Preferred Qualifications: A PhD in a related field and prior experience with educational software such as Moodle.
