Key Responsibilities
The Associate Managing Editor will play a vital role in the strategic enhancement of designated APS journals, continuously working to elevate their visibility within the scientific community. This position involves collaborating with the Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editors, and the editorial team to develop and implement strategic initiatives aimed at journal growth.
In this role, the Associate Managing Editor will:
  1. Utilize strategic thinking and creativity to propose innovative ideas.
  2. Oversee the peer review process, ensuring a high-quality experience for authors, reviewers, and editors.
  3. Work closely with the editorial team to manage commissioned content and identify emerging research areas.
  4. Collaborate with the marketing department to curate engaging social media content and analyze performance metrics.
  5. Monitor journal performance, track editorial activities, and organize meetings to facilitate communication within the team.
  6. Manage special projects, including the production of journal-specific podcasts and initiatives to support early career researchers.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
  1. A Bachelor's Degree.
  2. Experience in scholarly publishing, particularly in scientific or medical contexts.
  3. 3-5+ years of relevant experience in editorial roles.
Skills Required
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
  1. Strong communication skills for diverse audiences.
  2. Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  3. Proficiency in data analysis related to journal performance.
  4. Experience with peer review management and collaboration tools.
  5. A passion for supporting the APS mission of advancing health through discovery.
Work Environment
This position is primarily remote, with occasional in-person meetings as needed. The APS values flexibility and encourages staff to collaborate with supervisors to determine the best working arrangements for optimal productivity.
