Job Summary

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Regional Director to lead the Bureau of Food Safety and Community Sanitation. As a key member of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, this role will be responsible for protecting the public from food safety hazards and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Zerega facility and surrounding grounds, including supervising custodial staff and administrative associates.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and Senior Director of Field Operations to oversee inspections and investigations.
  • Perform special inspections and assignments, taking corrective action as needed.
  • Manage day-to-day operational tasks, ensuring the facility is clean, well-maintained, and functioning efficiently.
  • Facilitate communication with various departments, superiors, colleagues, and staff to ensure smooth processes and efficient operational goals.
  • Respond to customer inquiries regarding mobile food vending permits and licenses.
  • Plan and execute logistical aspects of operations, including scheduling, inventory, and facility coordination.
  • Collaborate with leadership and team members to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
  • Provide training and arrange facility-related training for staff.
  • Work with the Health and Safety Coordinator to maintain a daily log of facility walkthrough findings and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Work closely with the Human Resource Manager regarding personnel matters, including trainings, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Support the facility with professionalism, excellent customer service, and relationship management.

Requirements:

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 30 credits in the biological and/or physical sciences.
  • Four years of satisfactory full-time experience performing inspections to assure compliance with pertinent laws, rules, and regulations governing food, drugs, and general environmental sanitation.
  • At least 18 months of experience in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity, or in supervising staff performing food, drug, and general environmental sanitation inspections or related work.
