The Health Information Retrieval Specialist is responsible for obtaining medical documentation through a high volume of outbound communications with healthcare facilities and electronically accessing various electronic medical record (EMR) systems. This role operates on a full-time schedule, Monday through Friday, during standard business hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a professional phone demeanor while making a designated number of outbound calls daily for the retrieval of documents and test results. Manage incoming and outgoing communications courteously.
  • Employ computer skills to securely access multiple EMR systems in compliance with HIPAA regulations for the purpose of document retrieval.
  • Ensure timely tracking of clinical documentation, including specialist consultation notes and diagnostic tests, through effective communication with specialist offices.
  • Report and follow up on any outstanding clinical documentation.
  • Adhere to the standards, practices, and policies set forth by the CMR Department.
  • Assist the CMR department during audits conducted by CMS.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.

Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Proficient computer skills, with a preference for experience in Microsoft Office and electronic health records (EHR).
  • Strong organizational and clerical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong phone etiquette.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology is preferred.
  • Experience with electronic medical records is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in a clinical environment is preferred.
  • Covid vaccination is required.
