Position Overview

JOB SUMMARY: This role is designed to complement the services offered by the Children's Home Network. The Educational Mentor will identify areas of difficulty and provide tailored educational support to enhance student learning. Services will be delivered in various settings, including home, school, or community environments that are convenient for families.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Educational Mentor will arrange consistent sessions for the designated student.
  • Encouragement and reinforcement of school involvement and continuous communication with the student's educational institution will be prioritized.
  • Support will be provided to help the student enhance academic skills, aiming for a 20% improvement in subjects identified as below grade level.
  • Methods to assist the student with educational objectives (such as homework strategies, reading techniques, and school readiness) will be modeled for parents.
  • Appropriate interactions between adults and children will be demonstrated.
  • Assessments will be conducted to establish baseline performance in areas of reading, writing, or mathematics.
  • Progress notes will be maintained to document services rendered and advancements in targeted areas.
  • Post-assessments will be performed to evaluate performance in deficient subjects at the conclusion of services.
  • Participation in literacy initiatives and summer reading programs will be expected.
  • Attendance at monthly quality assurance meetings is required.
  • Regular communication with the program team will be maintained.
  • Coordination of activities with the program team to meet specific goals outlined in support plans will be essential.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience: A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree with a teaching certification and at least two years of experience in an educational setting or two years of direct tutoring experience.

Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver's license and eligibility for insurance coverage through the current provider.

Insurance Coverage Requirements: Must have Workman's Compensation Insurance or operate as an LLC with a State Exemption. Professional Liability insurance is recommended but not mandatory.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong organizational skills are essential. Effective verbal and written communication abilities are required, along with the capacity to build productive relationships with clients, colleagues, supervisors, and other stakeholders. Interpersonal skills must be well-developed. Familiarity with the organization's structure, standard operating procedures, and policies is important.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

Annual Training Requirements: Completion of DCF HIPAA Confidentiality and Privacy Practices & Security Training and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Modules 1-3 is mandatory.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

Ability to communicate verbally, with good hearing (with or without a hearing device). Reasonable accommodations will be made for qualified individuals with disabilities. Capability to operate a motor vehicle safely, read printed materials, and document activities using a computer is necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Services will be provided in home, school, or community settings.
