Job Title: Landscape Architect III

Bowman Consulting is seeking a highly skilled Landscape Architect III to join our team in Fort Myers, FL. As a key member of our landscape architecture studio, you will be responsible for leading the design and development of complex landscape projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality results.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design and development of landscape architecture projects, including site planning, landscape design, and construction documentation.
  • Collaborate with senior staff members to perform landscape architecture work, including project design, production, and management.
  • Provide leadership in project design, production, and management, ensuring the delivery of high-quality results.
  • Design strategies to address client budgets and needs, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and professionalism.
  • Direct the execution of landscape architectural design processes on assigned projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Prepare hardscape and landscape plans for urban settings, streetscapes, parks, and recreation areas, including entitlement, site plan, and construction documents.
  • Perform plant inventory and evaluations, and conduct code research to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Consult with clients, engineers, and architects on specifications and needs of overall projects, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Perform onsite landscape inspections during site evaluations and construction, coordinating design requirements with contractors and equipment suppliers.
  • Conduct code research, write specifications, and coordinate permitting, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Present design projects to required legislative bodies or municipality commissions, effectively communicating the value and benefits of the project.
  • Review proposed design change orders and make recommendations as needed, ensuring the delivery of high-quality results.
  • Utilize and assist less experienced staff in understanding technical policies and procedures during the execution of projects for clients, promoting knowledge sharing and professional growth.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of federal, state, and local codes and permitting requirements, ensuring compliance and effective project delivery.
  • Assist in assembling Schematic Design (SD), Design Development (DD), and Construction Documents (CD), and reviewing jurisdiction submittal packages, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or related field; or commensurate relevant work experience in landscape design.
  • Master's degree a plus.
  • Seven or more (7+) direct professional experience working within a landscape architecture studio/office through all phases of design managing/leading projects of various scales and complexity.
  • Landscape Architect Registration preferred or pending completion within 6 months.
  • Appreciation and understanding of land development process and desire to contribute in design of housing, commercial, mixed-use, and industrial site plans, and work directly with our multidisciplinary team.
  • Technical knowledge and experience in production of Schematic Design (SD), Design Development (DD), and Construction Documents (CD), including site details, materials, and layout selection, and planting design; irrigation design a plus.
  • Development of design concepts and preparation of presentation-quality graphics and illustrations.
  • Preparation of detailed construction documents, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Construction oversight/administration, including RFI responses, submittal reviews, and observation of the contractor's work.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to direct junior staff members.
  • Project management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing scopes of work, schedules, and budgets and tracking them through project completion.
  • History of working on multiple complex projects concurrently.
  • Prior experience coordinating with clients, project team partners, and subconsultants.
  • Experience supervising, training, and mentoring staff.
  • High comfort level in running meetings, giving presentations, and leading client interactions.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Photoshop, and/or InDesign.
  • Experience in 3D Modeling (Sketchup, AutoCAD, Civil3D, Lumion, Land FX, GIS/ArcView) a plus.
  • Knowledge of planting design proficiency and knowledge of regional planting materials and techniques.
  • Knowledge of water-harvesting/irrigation design principles a plus.
  • Must have a solid understanding of site design; grading principles and drainage concepts; construction methods, materials, and details.
  • Able to provide professional work portfolio upon request.
  • Must hold a valid state driver's license and successfully pass a motor vehicle check.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
  • Partially indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Partially outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
