The Healthcare Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting the Care team and its patients through various clinical and administrative responsibilities. This includes patient intake, responding to inquiries, and documenting interactions in accordance with established protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver patient care and provide clinical summaries along with guidance on follow-up actions.
  • Conduct phlebotomy procedures as required.
  • Collaborate with the care team by preparing patients and gathering necessary clinical information.
  • Manage patient flow in accordance with approved scheduling guidelines.
  • Execute standing orders that align with practice policies.
  • Accurately document all patient interactions and clinical activities in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Coordinate scheduling of tests, treatments, and follow-up appointments for patients; assist in identifying external resources for disease management.
  • Handle patient phone calls, ensuring messages are complete and routed to the appropriate providers.
  • Monitor task management systems to ensure timely responses to outstanding tasks and critical referrals.
  • Work alongside Regional Nurse Managers to oversee temperature monitoring.
  • Support the care team in maintaining efficient office operations and delivering high-quality service.
  • Engage with patients in a manner that fosters trust and loyalty.
  • Exhibit respect for patients and colleagues by maintaining a courteous demeanor and upholding patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain open communication with the care team and Regional Management.
  • Stay informed about current coding, OSHA, and CLIA regulations as well as company policies.
  • Adhere to patient safety initiatives and infection control protocols.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an Accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant or the ability to obtain certification shortly after hire.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant in a primary care environment.
  • Familiarity with Epic software.
  • Understanding of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.

Compensation: The hourly wage for this position ranges from $16.00 to $27.31, based on various factors including local labor markets, education, and experience. UnitedHealth Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive programs and retirement contributions, subject to eligibility requirements.
