The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the Care team and assisting patients through various clinical and administrative responsibilities. These include patient intake, responding to patient inquiries, and accurately documenting patient interactions, all while adhering to the Connecticut scope of practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver patient care, clinical summaries, and guidance on subsequent steps or follow-ups.
- Conduct phlebotomy procedures as required.
- Actively participate as a member of the care team by preparing patients for consultations and collecting necessary clinical information according to established protocols.
- Manage patient appointments and scheduling in accordance with approved guidelines.
- Execute standing orders in line with practice policies and procedures.
- Accurately document all patient interactions and clinical activities in the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely manner.
- Coordinate scheduling of tests, treatments, and follow-up visits for patients; assist patients in identifying appropriate external resources for disease management and other services; refer patients as necessary.
- Handle and document patient phone calls; take comprehensive messages and route them to providers as needed using the EHR.
- Oversee task management to ensure timely responses to tasks, follow up on overdue orders/worklists, and monitor critical referrals.
- Collaborate with Regional Nurse Managers to maintain oversight of temperature monitoring.
- Support the care team in ensuring smooth office operations and delivering exceptional service through teamwork.
- Provide attentive care to patients, fostering confidence, trust, and loyalty.
- Exhibit respect for patients and UnitedHealth Group staff by maintaining a friendly and courteous demeanor at all times while ensuring patient confidentiality.
- Maintain open communication with the care team and Regional Management team.
- Stay informed about current coding, OSHA, and CLIA regulations, as well as company policies.
- Adhere to all patient safety initiatives and infection control regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of an Accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant, or the ability to obtain CMA/RMA shortly after hire.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant in a primary care environment.
- Familiarity with Epic software.
- Understanding of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
Compensation: The hourly wage for this position ranges from $16.00 to $27.31, influenced by various factors including local labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications. UnitedHealth Group adheres to all applicable minimum wage laws.
