Compensation: $72.65 Hourly

Salary Adjustment: The City Council has approved a cost-of-living increase for full-time employees in designated pay groups, which is reflected in the updated salary.

Starting Pay: The initial salary for this role is set at the minimum of the designated pay range. However, a higher salary may be offered based on the applicant's qualifications and experience.

Department Overview: The Senior Civil Engineer oversees the Engineering Division's Technical Review and Regulations Section, which is responsible for the review and approval of plans and documents for construction projects. This role involves increasing responsibilities and requires demonstrated technical and leadership capabilities.

Position Summary: This role is situated within the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. The primary responsibility is to manage an engineering work section, serving as the principal contact for the assigned engineering discipline. Key functions include:

  • Establishing sectional goals and objectives.
  • Planning, organizing, and reviewing projects assigned to staff.
  • Participating in the development of plans and specifications for public works projects.
  • Ensuring compliance of engineering projects with established plans and specifications.

The Senior Civil Engineer provides technical guidance to staff, assigns projects, and enhances operational methods. Regular interaction with city officials, engineering consultants, architects, contractors, developers, and the public is required to exchange technical information.

Veterans Preference: Honorably discharged veterans from the U.S. Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who meet the qualifications for this position will receive preference.

Job Requirements:

  • Expertise in administrative and managerial principles.
  • Ability to interpret and explain civil engineering regulations.
  • Experience in supervising public works engineering projects.
  • Proficiency in addressing complex engineering inquiries.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with engineering guidelines.
  • Capacity to develop long-term plans and assess achievements.
  • Possession of a Professional Engineer's License (Oklahoma).
  • Valid driver’s license (Operator).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least five years of experience in civil engineering or related fields.
  • Five years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in reviewing and interpreting civil engineering plans and documents.
  • Familiarity with software such as HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, and others.
  • Knowledge of FEMA regulations and local engineering standards.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily indoors, with occasional outdoor exposure.
  • Local travel for field inspections may be required.
  • Occasional out-of-town travel for meetings and conferences.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to read standard office correspondence.
  • Capability to identify sounds related to equipment operation.
  • Dexterity to operate office equipment and produce written communication.
