About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Crew Supervisor to join our team at Marmon Holdings, Inc. As a key member of our rail operations team, you will be responsible for supervising and coordinating switch crews in the movement and placement of rail cars in a rail yard.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and Coordinate Crews: Oversee the work assigned to the crew, ensuring it is completed in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Train and Develop Employees: Provide training and development opportunities to new employees, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Operate Locomotives: Safely operate electric, diesel-electric, or gas-turbine-electric locomotives, adhering to all safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Interpret Signals and Rules: Interpret train orders, signals, and rules and regulations, ensuring compliance with all safety protocols.
  • Transport Freight: Transport freight in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring accurate switching and placement of rail cars.
  • Communicate with Yard Coordinator: Communicate frequently with the yard coordinator, reporting progress and ensuring seamless coordination of crew activities.
  • Plan and Direct Movement: Plan and direct the movement of rail cars, ensuring efficient and safe operations.
  • Coordinate with Plant Facility Personnel: Coordinate with plant facility personnel to provide required service and ensure smooth operations.
  • Observe Track Conditions: Regularly observe track conditions to detect obstructions or defects, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
  • Prepare Reports: Prepare reports to explain accidents, unscheduled stops, or delays, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma (or equivalent) highly preferred, with 1+ years of supervisory experience and military experience helpful.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Excellent communication skills, ability to assess multiple tasks and develop a plan to complete them in a timely manner, and ability to work well with others as part of a team.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, compute rate, ratio, and percent, and draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions, deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations, and solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
