Lead Automation Systems Engineer

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline, or a combination of education and experience
  • At least ten (10) years of engineering experience in process-oriented manufacturing, utilities, or packaging systems
  • Proficient in troubleshooting automation and control systems as well as batch processes
  • Experience in a pharmaceutical manufacturing setting is essential
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems (such as iFix, Ignition, FactoryTalk), PLCs, and HMIs (Rockwell/AB, Siemens, etc.) is required
  • Capability in programming and configuring process control systems
  • Experience with Windows-based operating systems and related applications
  • Expertise in system interfacing, integration, and user access management
  • Experience with virtual machines/environments, preferably VMWare, is a plus
  • Knowledge of Oracle and MS SQL databases is preferred
  • IT competencies including domain management, networking, firewall, group policies/permissions, and system backup & restore are advantageous
  • Familiarity with MES systems (such as PAS-X) and MS SQL databases is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability in planning, organization, and project execution
  • Strong follow-up skills and adaptability in revising work plans are required

Job Overview:

The role involves supporting the effective design and execution of automation for process or utility systems. Responsibilities include providing input, reviewing, and approving design and requirement specifications, ensuring efficient implementation and qualification, and collaborating with production and other stakeholders. The aim is to enhance the reliability of process control systems to meet current and anticipated customer, business, and regulatory demands through a focus on personnel, equipment, and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee plans to maintain and enhance process control systems
  • Facilitate and manage the implementation of systems and interfaces
  • Support corporate, product supply, and departmental initiatives and projects
  • Coordinate scheduling and execution of plans in alignment with manufacturing timelines
  • Act as the automation lead on projects involving process control systems
  • Assist in developing and managing budgets for the maintenance and improvement of process control systems
  • Establish and uphold automation standards, specifications, and maintenance plans
  • Take initiative for personal development to gain a comprehensive understanding of site process control systems
  • Adhere to established automation standards and create new standards as necessary
  • Guide the site in defining automation direction and strategy, including hardware and software standards
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for automation-related downtimes
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for designated areas and technologies
  • Support audits and inspections as an SME for process control systems
  • Exhibit a thorough understanding of stakeholder management
  • Mentor and train colleagues and stakeholders in relevant areas, developing training materials as needed
  • Utilize appropriate cLEAN tools when applicable
  • Manage assignments with a focus on quality, risk management, and mitigation
  • Ensure system quality adheres to company standards and comply with change management protocols
