Job Title: Landscape Architecture Instructor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly qualified Landscape Architecture Instructor to join our team at the University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA). As a Landscape Architecture Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching and mentoring students in the field of landscape architecture.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and/or update course syllabus in consultation with the UCLA Extension Program Director as assigned.
  • Prepare and deliver course materials and learning assessments in assigned format.
  • Utilize Canvas system as a course support platform in in-person courses and as the delivery platform in online and hybrid courses.
  • Communicate course objectives and specific learning outcomes to students and review the grading policies of the course.
  • Evaluate student achievement of specific learning outcomes and assign grades.
  • Post final student grades to the Instructor Portal no later than two (2) weeks after the last class meeting.
  • Respond to student questions and learning needs in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with Program Director and Program Manager in a timely manner.
  • Stay current regarding the professional body of knowledge in the field of Landscape Architecture.
  • Complete required administrative tasks in a timely manner, including completing all new hire paperwork, submitting updated quarterly syllabus, posting bio and photo on UCLA Extension's public website, accepting the quarterly contract, submitting required textbook orders, completing University mandated trainings (sexual harassment, cyber security, Canvas etc.), and communicating classroom needs.
  • Participate in required orientations and instructor training programs.
  • Attend instructor meetings and program events.
  • Employ culturally competent teaching methodologies in the classroom inclusive of both domestic and international student populations.
  • Design interactive and motivational classroom activities to fully engage participants and to reinforce student learning.
  • Implement inclusive teaching strategies that engage learners from various backgrounds, identities, abilities, and experience levels to achieve equity in learning outcomes.
  • Respond to student inquiries about final grades, consult with Program Director as needed.
  • Maintain a record of final grades for up to 13 months following the last class session.

Qualifications:

  • BLA, BSLA, MLA, MSLA, or Landscape Architecture Certificate graduate with a current license, required.
  • Preference given to candidates with a current landscape architect license.
  • College-level teaching experience in landscape architecture or design (preferred).
  • Experience designing curriculum and measuring student performance (preferred).
  • Must be committed to the highest level of academic standards and integrity.
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey conceptual and complex ideas and information.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in or willingness to learn and use instructional technology and online teaching tools, Canvas, Zoom, Concept board, Powerpoint, etc.
  • Active affiliation and participation in relevant professional associations encouraged.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College-level teaching experience in landscape architecture or design (preferred).
  • Experience designing curriculum and measuring student performance (preferred).
