Job Title: Senior Youth Media Content Producer
Reports to: Director, Youth Media Program, Student Reporting Labs
Status: Full-Time/Regular/Exempt
Salary Range: $70,000.00 to $80,000.00
Position Overview:
The Senior Youth Media Content Producer plays a crucial role within the Student Reporting Labs initiative, working in close collaboration with the Youth Media Program Director to deliver hands-on training and educational frameworks for students and educators. This role encompasses both in-person and virtual engagements, the creation of educational materials, and the management of partnerships with external curriculum developers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide and mentor students throughout all phases of the production process: pre-production, production, and post-production.
- Collaborate with the Youth Media Program Director to plan and implement training and engagement events.
- Lead training sessions for students and educators, ensuring a thorough understanding of broadcast journalism production techniques, digital storytelling, podcasting, and social media.
- Establish metrics to assess the success of training programs, analyze results, and modify strategies as necessary.
- Efficiently manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to achieve program objectives.
- Research and recommend production tools, software, and storytelling equipment.
- Partner with external organizations to co-develop educational resources and materials.
- Create and enhance internal lesson plans and curricula to align with program goals.
- Publish and maintain educational resources on content management systems.
- Oversee individual production projects with student producers, offering assistance with story development, interviewing, filming, and editing as required.
- Support special projects, including fellowships, partnerships, professional development, and other assigned duties.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in film, journalism, communication, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in producing journalism or educational content.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A solid background in teaching journalism, production, and video editing is essential.
- Experience in project management.
- Proficiency in developing lesson plans and curricula, along with other educational resources.
- A strong interest in collaborating with an innovative team and the confidence, talent, and skills to contribute meaningfully.
- Demonstrated ability to shoot and edit broadcast-quality video.
- Experience with both professional and mobile production equipment.
- Exceptional writing skills.
- Highly skilled in the entire Adobe Creative Suite.
- Excellent organizational, project planning, presentation, and time management abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
- Proven capacity to work effectively within a multifaceted team that regularly collaborates with leaders and producers in a dynamic production environment.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Capability to thrive in an environment with multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadlines.
- Familiarity with data management and/or website content management platforms is preferred.
- Knowledge of state and national educational standards and best teaching practices is preferred.
