POSITION SUMMARY

The Estimator plays a crucial role in assessing bid specifications and drawings to ensure comprehensive understanding of project requirements for successful bidding and project acquisition. The Estimator is responsible for estimating and managing production costs by gathering and analyzing necessary information for each project, collaborating with Sales and Production Teams to create competitive cost estimates.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform all duties with Sunland's Core Values as a guiding principle.
  • Quantify project components and requirements accurately.
  • Understand project sites and associated restrictions.
  • Engage directly with Project Consultants to collect essential information for project bidding.
  • Advocate for safety and adhere to safety policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Estimating and Sales teams to ensure accurate project bids.
  • Review proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents to prepare and present estimates.
  • Analyze project requirements and proposals thoroughly.
  • Utilize historical performance data to inform current bids.
  • Maintain communication with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Embody Sunland's Core Values in all interactions.
  • Identify labor, material, and time requirements for each project.
  • Calculate costs by evaluating labor, material, and time needs.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings.
  • Utilize software tools to prepare estimates and documentation.
  • Manage personal estimating queue within Company Software daily.
  • Review bid requirements comprehensively.
  • Document all information, notes, and meetings in Company Software.
  • Provide weekly estimating updates to the Estimating Manager.
  • Act as a primary representative of the Company, delivering excellent service to clients and the public.
  • Follow up with subcontractors to confirm receipt of bids.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned. Note that this job description is not exhaustive and may change at any time.

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

SAFETY
  • This role is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to the company's drug and alcohol policy, along with all OSHA regulations.
  • All employees must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Act as a safety ambassador by complying with all relevant laws and Company safety policies, enforcing safe work practices, and proactively identifying and addressing worksite hazards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This position operates in professional construction sites and office environments, requiring the use of standard office equipment, effective verbal communication, and the ability to read printed materials and computer screens.
  • Must have the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions and the ability to lift, push, pull, carry, handle, or feel objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • May require climbing stairs and/or ladders, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and other physical activities in compliance with safety requirements.
  • Will work on project sites and operate vehicles, trailers, machinery, and tools in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Must be prepared to work outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions.
  • Exposure to chemicals, pollutants, and other environmental factors may occur.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
  • This is a full-time position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary based on job demands.
TRAVEL
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites is required, including potential overnight stays.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • A high school diploma or GED is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • At least two (2) years of estimating experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of general construction experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and blueprints.
  • Strong mathematical skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and strong computer skills are required.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills are necessary.
  • Fluency in English is required, including speaking, reading, and writing.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
  • Passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and background check is mandatory.
