Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled General Engineer to join our team at the Department of Energy. As a General Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the development and implementation of safe and effective weapons systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor new weapons systems in the development phase to determine what components require NNSA acceptance and the appropriate level of survey coverage.
  • Provide oversight of NAP 401 and ensure compliance with Weapon Quality Policy and related quality management systems.
  • Conduct detailed assessments of safety software or weapon quality assurance operations and oversight to identify weaknesses and best practices.
  • Lead NNSA weapon quality-related activities to resolve complex weapon production and/or quality assurance problems and ensure that schedules and requirements are achieved in the best economic and logistical interests of the Government.
Requirements
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Favorable suitability determination required.
  • Financial Disclosure is required.
  • Human Reliability Program (HRP) Certification is required.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a Q level Security Clearance.
  • You must be a United States Citizen.

  • Must be able to obtain certification in the DOE's Technical Qualification Program (TQP) within 18 months of start date.
Qualifications
  • A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA pay band level or GS grade level in the Federal Service, i.e. NN-03. NQ-03 or GS-12/13.
  • Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience conducting at least 3 of the following activities:
    • Experience evaluating design or manufacturing processes with respect to established industrial and/or government standards for quality.
    • Hands-on experience inspecting electrical and mechanical components to their manufactured specifications and engineering drawings.
    • Experience preparing technical reports and briefings for management consideration related to product quality that promotes continuous improvement.
    • Experience teaming with others to resolve complex production problems identified through quality assurance and quality control practices.
Education

All applicants must meet the basic requirements of the General Engineer occupational series. Transcripts or other proof of required education MUST be included in application package.

The General Engineer Series 0801 requires a degree in professional engineering from a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology as a professional engineering curriculum, or include differential and integral calculus and courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: statics, dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical fields and circuits, and nature and properties of materials.

OR, a combination of education and experience that furnished a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.
