Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Automation Systems Engineer, you will play a vital role in enhancing the engineering team's performance. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting in the architecture, design, and detailed development of automation control systems. You will be tasked with initializing, configuring, integrating, and testing these systems, as well as troubleshooting and downloading programs. The automation control components you will work with include servo and stepper motion systems, robotics, vision systems, sensors, IIoT modules, safety mechanisms, programmable logic controllers (PLC), and industrial PCs. A solid understanding of these systems, their electrical connections, communication protocols, and their functions within the automation framework is essential.

The ideal candidate will possess experience in designing and constructing electrical control systems, programming, and troubleshooting the aforementioned components, along with a quick adaptability to new automation technologies. This role supports the entire process from design through manufacturing, factory acceptance testing, and occasional on-site installations. Additionally, a working knowledge of mechanical elements related to automation, such as ball and linear bearings, belts and pulleys, lead screws, gear drives, grippers, and vision lighting and optics, is required.

Additional Duties Include:
  • Designing and detailing control systems that align with project specifications while adhering to UL508A standards.
    • Utilizing Mechanical CAD (SolidWorks Mechanical) for drafting the mechanical layout of electrical cabinets.
    • Employing Electrical CAD (SolidWorks Electrical) for creating electrical schematics.
  • Conducting specific application tests to demonstrate the capabilities of various automation control components for sales engineers.
  • Diagnosing and resolving control system errors, subsystem issues, and comprehensive system failures.
  • Offering technical assistance to Sales Engineers, Applications Technicians, and assembly technicians as required.
  • Supporting system installations, on-site commissioning, and general field support activities.

Qualifications:
  • A degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Software, or Mechatronics Engineering, or a comparable 4-year technical degree.
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience in automation controls design.
  • Familiarity with Product Data Management (e.g., SWPDM), ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Syspro), and CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks Mechanical and Electrical).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
  • Experience with mechatronics, including sensors, vision systems, motion control, PLCs, and robotics.
  • Strong understanding of automation controls, including electrical schematics and control panels.
  • Knowledge of UL508A standards.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma process control and design methodologies.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills and methodologies.
  • Understanding of software coding principles, component application code, scripting languages, PLC programming, and C# (robotics and vision programming) is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary, up to 50%.
